My name is Liliane Bisseck. I founded Mouna Dreams in 2019 so that I, and others like me who care, can make a substantial difference in the lives of children in Cameroon through education, food, and healthcare.
I was born and raised in Cameroon and moved to the United States when I was a young woman. Unfortunately, I was not able to visit my childhood village in Cameroon again for another 30 years. But the trip back that I took in 2018 was life changing.
Cameroon is a lower-middle class country in Central Africa, with an underdeveloped economy that suffers from stagnant per capita income, an inequitable distribution of income, endemic corruption, and inefficient systems in key sectors.
Basic living is a challenge in Cameroon. For young children living in rural areas, going to school is almost impossible due to the lack of resources like books and other school supplies. There is also little parental interest in sending children to school. Parents often say that they have managed “fine with no education", or that they learned everything they need to know by “working in the farm’, or the most frequent excuse that, "A girl doesn't need to go to school, she will find a husband."
During my visit in 2018, I stayed in the remote village of Lindoi. There, the condition of the schools was deplorable. This is where I saw the opportunity to make a positive difference and improve the lives of children while doing so. It was then that I decided to build and furnish a brand-new pre-school, thus providing a safe and healthy learning environment for 50 children.
As I grew into a young woman, my father taught me the value of generosity and kindness. He always insisted on helping others whenever the opportunity arose. He instilled in me, this desire to help and to dream big while doing it. I could not see these children suffering and turn my back on them and just return to the United States. I knew in my heart that as an educated Cameroonian woman, I was fortunate and blessed, and that this was the type of opportunity that my father spoke about. Building and outfitting the school was a chance to honor him. A chance to make the future as bright for Cameroonian children as my parents and grandparents did for me.
After the great success in Lindoi, Mouna Dreams was born. It was born out of my belief that every child, no matter where he or she is born, should be able to dream big and have the opportunity for an excellent education, good healthcare, and a decent life. Through Mouna Dreams, I hope to provide the resources to help make those dreams a reality.
OUR MISSION
The mission of MOUNA DREAMS is to positively impact and change the lives of underprivileged kids in rural areas of Cameroon and designated places in Africa by providing tools for education and healthcare.
OUR VISION
Changing lives: One child , one village at a time.
We plan to replicate the success we have achieved in Lindoi in other rural, under-served communities in Cameroon. Through your generous donations, you can lend a helping hand. Through this kindness, together, we will show Cameroonian children that education and healthcare are possible even in poverty.
